What is it?
Hip pain may occur as a result of traumatic injury, sudden increase in activity, or occasionally for no apparent reason at all. It can present in a variety of ways, either constant, intermittent, elicited by a specific movement, or even at rest. While hip pain may be related to injury of an anatomical structure within the hip (labral tear, trochanteric bursitis, tendinopathy, groin strain etc.), it may also be mechanical in origin, in which structures are being stretched enough to elicit pain, but are not necessarily damaged.
How to Treat Hip Pain?
Hip injuries present in a variety of ways, which is why we utilize movement assessment and specialized tests to evaluate which movements may reduce symptoms and regain function. If there are movements that elicit symptoms in your hip, it is very likely that there are movements that reduce symptoms in your hip. Upon establishing a repeated movement that reduces symptoms, a personalized strengthening program is implemented to prevent future issues.
Hip Pain & Low Back Pain
The hip has a close relationship with the low back or lumbar spine. It is common for pain to refer from the lumbar spine, resulting in pain and loss of movement in the hip. This relationship is critical as chronic hip pain may simply be related to a region that has never been addressed. Therefore, if you are experiencing hip pain, whether elicited with a hip movement or not, we will examine the lumbar spine to see if it influence symptoms and function of your hip.

Hip pain is just one of the many conditions we treat at Denver Spine & Performance.
